Restoration experiments

Starting year
1995

KISKUN LTER Restoration Experiments operates as a separate LTER site and provides unique information about the long term effects of restoration activities. The target of restoration experiments is the endemic Pannonian sand grassland that is under protection of the EU (Pannonic sand steppe, habitat code 6260). The goal of restoration ecological research is to create a scientific basis for measures facilitating the reconstruction of a self-sustainable ecosystem that require no or only conventional, extensive management. The information gained help with planning restoration activities in the future. The experiments started in 1995, the monitoring had been conducted from 1995 to 2021 in different years with 1 m*1m or 2 m*2 m permanent quadrats. We plan to continue the monitoring in every five years, possibly accompanied with a follow up of other restoration activities of the national park.
